In today’s generation there is a form of social media called YouTube. It is where people can express themselves and their talents. Some film themselves doing makeup, singing, drawing, or whatever it is that shows their self-expression.

Jodie Latham and Amanda Lawther, seniors, use this social media outlet as their form of expression. They are aspiring makeup artists. Latham plans on making makeup a career. She wants to go to college for beauty and eventually work for MAC or Urban Decay.

“I think for me it helps me show people ‘this is how I feel,’ and ‘this is who I am,’” Latham said.

Amanda Lawther, senior, publishes makeup tutorials on her YouTube channel, Cora B. Shay.

Lawther does not plan on making beauty a full time career, but next semester she plans on working hard on her YouTube Channel and seeing how it goes.

“I view makeup as a way of showing art. There are different looks and different things you can do with it to show your personality,” Lawther said.

Both said they love to do makeup on other people.

“It made me so happy when I would do the cheer team’s makeup and they loved it. When they had the biggest smiles on their faces, that is when I was the happiest,” Latham said.

Lawther feels nervous when doing makeup on others.

“I don’t know how it will turn out, but when the people end up loving it, I am extremely happy that I could do something for them.”

Social media and word-of-mouth played crucial roles in the start of both channels.

“I posted stories on Twitter and Snapchat. I was telling my friends to tell people about it, so they watched and shared their opinions,” Latham said.
